Our History

The Inland Empire Men’s Club (IEMC) was conceived in Rico’s Barbershop off Murrieta Hot Springs Road in Murrieta, California. During many conversations, as a few men discussed their mutual displeasure with the attitudes, conduct, dress demeanor, ineffective communication skills, and lack of respect for self and others were often being displayed by many of the young men within the surrounding communities.

As such, Dr. Charles Washington, D.B.A, Attorney Miles Clark, Clarence Banks, and Ray McLaughlin decided to form a club consisting of prominent adult males that could partner with local middle schools, high schools and the Boy & Girls Club to reach out to the young men. Our group agreed that the initial officers would be:

  • President: Dr. Charles Washington, D.B.A.
  • Vice President: Ray McLaughlin
  • Secretary: Atty Miles Clark III
  • Treasurer: Clarence Banks

We further determined, it was prudent to establish bylaws that would allow the club to become a non-profit organization with a mission for IEMC to provide mentoring and tutoring for young men. The mentoring will focus on academics empowering young men with the tools necessary to become productive citizens.

Furthermore, the non-profit status would allow for tax free donations from both individuals as well as business establishments. Donations are needed to assist with the procurement of belts, shirts, neckties and scholarships.

The bylaws were completed on Novermber 2011 and an applicatioin for Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Non Profit 501(c)(3) status was submitted in February 2012 and ultimate approval was granted on October 2012. Once the approval was granted authorization was provided to establish the checking account. Consequently, the current officers decided to bring on additional members to fill the vacancies of the committees and replace the Treasurer due to work requirements. The following members were added:

  • Dr. Carl Tyler, PH.D.
  • Rickey Marlowe, Replaced the Treasurer
  • Fred Bohanon
  • Johnny Morrow
  • Kenneth Robinson
